North Lombok waterfalls: Tiu Kelep, Sendang Gile and Benang Stokel
Updated October 24, 2026 · 5 min read
Pair Sendang Gile with Tiu Kelep in the north; pair Benang Stokel with Benang Kelambu in central Lombok. Do not treat all four as neighbouring stops. Your hotel location and willingness to spend a long day on the road should decide between them.
Senaru: Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep
Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep sit near Senaru beneath Mount Rinjani. The Tiu Kelep and Selong Hill adventure is listed as lasting 10 hours, which signals the amount of travel and walking involved; the listing also adds a hike up Selong Hill for panoramic views. Sendang Gile is normally the first waterfall reached; continuing to Tiu Kelep means a longer, wetter forest approach. Paths, river crossings and spray can be slippery.
Central Lombok: Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu
The Benang Stokel and Kelambu day trip combines the falls with culture, coast and sunset. It is also listed as lasting 10 hours. This is a broad island itinerary rather than a pure hiking trip, useful when you want several kinds of stop but less suitable if you prefer a slow waterfall visit.
What to check
Ask whether the quoted walk is from the vehicle or only between viewing points, whether a local guide and entrance charges are included, and where changing clothes is possible. Wear footwear that can grip when wet. After heavy rain, water levels and access may change; the local operator should make the day’s decision.
Swimming should never be assumed. Currents, falling water and debris vary with conditions. Follow instructions on site and do not stand directly beneath a powerful fall merely for a photograph.
Our recommendation
For a north-Lombok base or a waterfall-focused day, choose the Tiu Kelep and Selong Hill trip. For travellers based farther south who want waterfalls alongside villages and coast, the Benang combination can make better logistical sense. In both cases, judge the whole itinerary of 10 hours – not just the waterfall photograph.
