Sekotong and the south-west Gilis: which island trip should you take?
Updated October 24, 2026 · 5 min read
Choose the south-west Gilis when you want a quieter island-hopping day from mainland Lombok, not a substitute for the nightlife and facilities of the three famous northern Gilis. The two trips we link are both full-day outings: a Nanggu–Sudak–Kedis circuit (listed at 6–8 hours, €16 per person) and a route towards Asahan, Layar and Goleng (6–9 hours, €100 per group of up to two).
The Nanggu–Sudak–Kedis circuit
The Gili Nanggu, Sudak and Kedis island-hopping trip combines snorkeling and beach stops. It suits you if you want several small islands at a per-person price. Its listing has few reviews so far (14, averaging 4.4), so read the details closely.
Small islands have limited shade and facilities. Ask where lunch happens, whether fresh water and snorkeling equipment are included, and whether there is a toilet during the route. The word “quiet” is not a guarantee of an empty beach: other boats may arrive at the same time.
The Asahan, Layar and Goleng route
The all-inclusive Gili Asahan, Layar and Goleng island-hopping tour also names Gili Gede and Rengit in its description. It suits travellers who see the boat journey and several snorkeling areas as the main event. Its price is per group of up to two rather than per person, so compare the total for your party, and confirm actual stops, transfer arrangements and the response to rough conditions before booking.
Neither itinerary promises wildlife. Reef visibility depends on weather, current and recent rain. Keep fins away from coral, do not stand on the reef, and follow the crew’s entry points rather than swimming off alone.
Getting to the departure
Sekotong is a mainland area, while the named Gilis are separate islands. Confirm the exact harbour and whether pickup covers your accommodation; “from Lombok” does not mean every hotel is automatically included. If pickup is absent, arrange the return before leaving because an outbound taxi does not guarantee transport after the boat returns.
Our recommendation
For one or two travellers the Nanggu–Sudak–Kedis circuit has the lower listed price (€16 per person against €100 per group of up to two). Choose the Asahan route when you specifically want Asahan, Layar and Goleng in an all-inclusive format.
